YF Study on Romans this Friday (Oct 2)

Thanks for the active discussion in our "Letting things Die" discussion last Friday and for our exploration in Theology for Sunday school too. As we talked about on Friday, it's so apparent in our lives that we spend too much energy maintaining a false idea of our self. Each of us has areas of our lives that we need to let die, Jesus has invited us to lose our life so that we can gain what really matters John 12:23-26; Mark 8:34-38. Very often, this process takes time and if taken seriously, your mind is renewed and you will become more Christ-like.

This Friday (Oct 2), we will be continuing our Bible study in Romans. Our passage this week is incredibly important and has a lot of depth into our condition (all of us). Our study in Romans is one that is extremely important regardless of where we are in our walk, whether we just want to learn more about God or developing a deep/passionate faith anchored in Christ. Bring your Bibles, four color pens/pens and be open to hearing from the Lord. Romans is challenging in the way that it not only reveals the character of God but also reveals what we don't often acknowledge about ourselves.

Some of you have expressed an interest in baptism, I've attached a baptismal application form over the e-mail. If you are interested in getting baptized at Christmas this year, please return the form to me as soon as possible so you and I can arrange for baptismal classes.

As part of CCCO's 20th anniversary, on Saturday's event (October 10th), the YF has been asked to help serve dinner and help clean up as well. Please keep this in mind.

One Homeless Night is coming up on October 23rd - 24th. We will be accompanied by staff / adult leaders and be sleeping safely indoors. It's an overnight event and designed for us to experience and develop a deeper awareness for homelessness. It will also help shape your character as we encounter the people and develop our own response to the issue for the rest of our lives. Some of you have already committed to the event, so you can start asking around for pledges (a total of $50 for each participant). Let me know ASAP if you plan to participate, so we can get more adult leaders on board.

Feel free to update us with what's going on in life or any prayer requests or if you want to get together with us for chats etc. ;)
See you all Friday!

YF "Letting things Die" Discussion this Friday (25th)

It was nice to have the YF room filled to be warm and cozy last Friday (it was cold outside), I was told there were 33 of us packed like sardines in there :). Please continue to think about what we learned from the first 17 verses in Romans and be open to how your life can bring glory to God. Just like Paul, God is at work in your life and has called you for a purpose. Sunday school has also started and we had a great first class discussing theology and will continue to ask challenging questions.

This Friday (Sept 25th), we'll be taking a look at another Nooma video (we haven't done that since last November!). Our discussions from the ones we've watched have all been quite positive so I'm looking forward to this week. It deals with a really relevant mindset (that we ALL have) that haunts everyone of us (to different degrees of course) and takes its toll on our daily lives. We'll deal with false ideas about ourselves and how other people see us, we'll talk about why we are so consumed about ourselves and a lot of issues that we unconsciously accept. Bring your Bibles, feel free to continue inviting your friends and join the discussion.

As most of you already know, this is CCCO's 20th anniversary year and there is a celebration over thanksgiving weekend. On Saturday's event (October 10th), YF has been asked to help serve dinner and help clean up as well. Please keep this in mind, it's still about 3 weeks away. :)

Also keep in mind, that we currently plan to take part in One Homeless Night on October 23rd - 24th.

Let us know how you are doing.
See you this Friday!

YF Bible study in Romans this Friday (18th)

Fall Retreat is always one of my favorite times of the year! Our prayer is that every single one of us would fall deeper in love with Christ - because everything about us: our character, our attitudes and the way we serve/do anything flows from our relationship with Christ. Big thanks to the Gerard's for blessing us by opening up their home (and by common consensus the best location we've ever had) to us. Like every retreat, it was a time for loud fun and quiet reflection. Try hard not to let anything distract you from the commitments you've made - as the ones you submitted will be up on our wall as a reminder of your commitment to God this year. Although you are back to your normal environment, allow God to change you here.

This Friday (18th) we will be starting a new study on the book of Romans at 7:30pm in the youth room. Romans is an important book for all of us to read, it's a letter that not only shapes our thoughts about faith (theology, doctrine) but covers how we should live out the gospel in our lives and our duty as followers of Christ. It's going to be a 'meaty' book but we will cover the big ideas of each chapter and talk (together) about how to actually 'put flesh and blood' on the principles and live our lives as God intended. Bring your Bibles, (4 color) pens and a willingness to be challenged by God through reading Scripture.

Sunday School is also starting up this week and we'll be focusing on some essential theology this term, (knowing more about God as a whole through Scripture ie, Trinity etc.), it's every sunday morning at 9:30am. Everyone who attended Discipleship week will remember our experience at OIM and the Mission. We have an opportunity in October (23rd) for One Homeless Night, it's a night where we actually experience an evening being homeless. Money we raise will go directly towards the ministry of Ottawa Innercity Ministries and the experience itself will likely be something that will continue to shape our compassion, understanding and character. If we go, we will need some adult volunteers and to raise funds, we will discuss the possibility a bit more this Friday as well.

I've e-mailed you some info about the Billy Graham initiative this winter, we'll talk a bit about it on Friday as well.

God bless,
See you all Friday,

YF Fall Retreat 09 this Weekend! (details)

Hope everyone enjoyed Where's Waldo last week, I heard some of the Waldo's evaded a couple of the teams. Congrats to Helen's team who managed to squeak out a close victory over Jessica's team :) I still want a copy of some of the videos, they looked great!

This weekend (11th - 13th) is already the Fall Retreat! We have a special treat this year because Rae-Anne's parents have opened their beautiful lake-side house for our use this year! It even has a hottub, bring bathing suits (one piece or t-shirts for girls). We will be meeting at the VIA Rail station at 200 Tremblay Rd at 5:15pm on Friday, September 11th and you can be picked up at the same station on Sunday, September 13th at 5:00pm. Please do not be late to the station because the train departure time is not flexible. Please arrange for a way to the station by pooling with each other. If you still want to come to retreat there are 2 openings, let me know before tomorrow at 5:30pm.

Our retreat theme this year is "Deeper in Love with Jesus" We will take a look into the red letters of Scripture and explore some pretty tough commands that Jesus has made, but also look into His model of servanthood and the attitude that He desires us to have. Please pray for the retreat and prepare your heart for the devotions, worship, sharing, sessions and challenges ahead.

Essential things to bring: Bible, pens, papers, special health devices, last minute form and/or cheque (if you haven't yet, or forgot one of the two), sleeping bags, warm clothes, outdoor clothes (and change of clothes depending on weather), towels, toiletries, bathing suit, instrument (if you are helping with worship), worship music
Additional things: board games, group games, basketballs, footballs, baseball gloves and balls etc.
Things NOT to bring: ipods, media players (videos, music, movies etc.)

Looking forward to an awesome weekend together!
See you on Friday

YF Where's Waldo this Saturday! Fall Retreat forms!

Hope you've had a good first day back at classes (some of you are having your second day today). Once again, thanks to the Ma family for opening up their home for us and for everyone that brought food to share with our fellowship! We also had the privilege to hear from some of our graduating students as well, they shared their hearts with us and I'm sure they would love to stay in close touch with YF.

This Saturday morning (Sept. 5th 9:30am - 2pm) will be our YF Kickoff "Where's Waldo" event! Please try to be punctual, even come ahead of time if you could because we need to divide you into teams and send you on your way as the Waldo's will already be waiting at the mall. Each team will need a camera to take pictures and with video capabilities for extra points. Please bring your cameras fully charged with space too. Each team will be given a "Find these Suspects" card. You will try and find as many Waldo's during the given time (snap a picture with them and get their signature on their picture on the card (there will be bonus points awarded for certain tasks) then return to church by 1pm to eat lunch together. Each Waldo has been encouraged to look "out of character of their own personalities" and to be in constant motion, so they are always moving. Just like any kickoff event, lots of people are giving of their time to be involved in it, please honor that and be quick and invite friends from anywhere (same ones as coffeehouse, a good time to reinvite them).

We've registered many people for Fall Retreat (Sept 11-13th) who still need either form or payment. If you still would like to register a friend or something, we can still make arrangements because of how things have worked out. So please get your forms and payment in this Saturday! We will be meeting at the VIA Rail station at 200 Tremblay Rd at 5:15pm on Friday, September 11th and you can be picked up at the same station on Sunday, September 13th at 5:00pm. If you are on a team for the devotions in the mornings you may want to touch base with each other regarding those.

Let us know if you want us to pray for you, to catch up with a coffee, bbtea or something.
See you Saturday!
