YF Hotpot with h2o, Amazing Race and more!

just want to say again how amazing Discipleship Week was (for me at least ;). it was a lot of hours together, and early mornings, but i think it was wayyy more than worth it. it was great to spend so much time together (i really mean it), it's something that's hard to do once school starts but it was refreshing and edifying to my faith (even teaching it). i hope it was great for your faith too (which was the whole point), lots of thanks also to james who taught 1 out of the 5 days, it's a lot of work even to do one day of discipleship week! thanks james! also thank all of you for such an awesome summer (my fav summer!) we had the mission trip, sharings, baptisms, YF room, hanging out, bowling and discipleship week! please, please remember to take what you have learned back to school with you as well!

this friday (29th) will be the last YF of the summer, jeremy and jeff suggested that the YF should do a hotpot together, (or cantonese know it as da been lo, or fuo guo if you are mandarin) but i love it!!! it's so delicious! so this friday we will be joined by h2o and hotpot! we DO need more hotpots though (stove, pot and gas), so if you have a set to bring, please let me know and bring it. also bring some food that you want to eat as well (if you do not bring food, please bring $7 to help cover the costs). Hot pot is a really great time because it's not just eating but the fun of being to together and talking! as some of you may be away for the labor day weekend, please let me know that you are coming so we can prepare the quantity of pots and food ASAP!

NEXT saturday (sept.6) will be the AMAZING RACE 5, i wasn't sure about doing it because its really tiring especially between Discipleship Week and the Fall Retreat and starting sunday school again, but it's back because of popular demand ;) so invite your friends, book the saturday off work, and join our YF kickoff event! sunday school is supposed to start on sept. 7th too.

ALSO, our YF fall retreat is coming up for Oct 17-19th!!! so book those dates on your calendar and tell work "yo, i'm not coming in because of the YF fall retreat, it's way cooler, talk to josh if you've got a problem." or something like that! it's at gracefield in quebec, and i've heard some really good things about it! woah, everything is coming up soon so i better get back to planning everything.

Discipleship Week and Intentional YF!

It's been so awesome seeing so many of you every morning for Discipleship week! Your parents should already have this address but the place we are meeting tomorrow morning is:

Salvation Army Gladstone Community Church
391 Gladstone Ave. at 9am - 12am.

If you are being picked up, please ask your parents to pick you up AT the Salvation Army church. If you want, I will be walking back to church (good exercise!) afterwards, I'd love company for the walk!

Also for FRIDAY - For over 20 of you, we've have been having Discipleship week every morning so DURING the normal YF timeslot (7:30pm) I've encouraged you all to intentionally (intentionally!) spend time with each other to develop community. This can be in groups of 2 or 5 or 15 or 20. Just to be intentionally spending time in fellowship and getting to know each other better. God desires you to be co-ministers and deep in your fellowship with one another. It's been a fantastic week to spend with you all and I've really appreciated how you did all your homework each night too! I promise to read them all too! We will be praying for amazing small groups on Friday and please reach out to people you haven't talked to in awhile too!

also, look forward and mark your calendars for our fall retreat this year: oct 17-19th!

Discipleship Week: The New Generation

discipleship week is next week!
august 18-22nd 9:30am - 12:00pm
next week's theme is about your generation and what a genuine life in Christ looks like. what does it look like to live a transformed life in front of your friends at school, work or other activities? all through history it's the everyday, ordinary people that make the biggest changes in the world. God has called you to make a change, we are going to discuss the truth about who God is, learning to trust Him and simply be real to each other. yeah, being a Christian is hard in a world that shifts everyday. that's all the more reason to live a life that influences the family and friends around you. there is always a lot of time and prayer that goes into preparing discipleship week and the activities. shelly and i are praying that each of you will take the week seriously, be faithful and committed to each morning (including our ottawa innercity morning), and completing the *short* homework activities each day.

YF Room this Friday and VBS Graduation

it was great to spend the day at natasha's with all of you and to be encouraged from pastor brent and his family. many thanks to uncle oscar and auntie samantha for opening up their home to us last saturday! like last week, a bunch of you have been serving and helping out everyday for the past couple of weeks on the room! the room is progressing well and we might be ready to paint on friday!

at least 16 of you are helping out with VBS this week - so auntie sue needs you at the VBS grad ceremony, but hopefully those of you who are not helping with VBS can help out during the YF time on friday. we need everyone that is not helping with VBS to help us in the room. maybe you can even help after the VBS grad. corey has sent out an e-mail with the following color suggestions: drawing of room, corner, front. so please give feedback about the colors ASAP, we are likely to buy the paint in the next couple of days. i personally like the light green and light blue idea.

discipleship week is already next week! every morning from 9:30am - 12:00 noon. the theme "the new generation: calling you to make a change" is kind of building on what shelly and i keep saying to you guys. you CAN and are called to make a change in your life and those who surround you every day. it's going to be a great week!
see you all week, =) and friday!

YF barbeque and mini-retreat at Natty's this Saturday

hope everyone got to enjoy the long weekend with their families! many of you stayed in town and were able to help out with our youth room which has been awesome! eric, winston, corey and jeremy are helping renovate every morning this week! if you are able, come join us! it's nice to see everyone hanging out this summer, people going to movies together and each other's homes.

this saturday, natasha's parents (uncle oscar and auntie samantha) have opened up their home to YF for a barbeque and mini-retreat day [directions]. we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful summer to have a day to hang out, eat, play games and enjoy fellowship time together. please arrive around 11:00am and plan to be picked up around 4:30-5pm. we even have a special guest with us: pastor brent is in town with his family from newmarket. brent was part of our ouje-bougoumou team this summer and will be in ottawa for the weekend! please have your parents fill out this form and if you don't have a ride (ask me or arrange a car pool with youth in your area).

keep in mind that discipleship week "the new generation: calling you to make a change" is coming up 9:30am-12:00pm every morning from august 18-22. it's going to be an awesome week that we plan to spend in our new youth room! also, informally this friday, some YF people are going over to william and lena's house, if you want more details on that you can ask jeremy!

if you want to catch up give me a call, see you this saturday at nat's house!
