YF Relationships talk pt.2 this Friday (2nd) Getaway forms DUE!

It was fun to see many of you on Saturday for Laura's Missions surprise party and our study of Proverbs on Sunday. It was sad that we couldn't meet on Friday (for real, we missed you!), but the roads were incredibly bad on Friday and it took some people two hours to return from their offices.

GETAWAY FORMS are DUE this week! Return them this Friday with cheques made payable to 'Ottawa Chinese Youth Ministerium.' I'll be having coffee with Pastor Rob on Thursday morning and we are both excited for the Getaway (March 16-18th)! Preparations and meetings are ongoing for all the Getaway committees (Worship, Admin/promo, Small groups etc.), hope things are going well!

This Friday (2nd), we'll continue our talk and study of Scripture on relationships (part 2). Keep in mind that this subject is in no way an encouragement to rush into romantic relationships, but these Scriptural commands apply to each one of us whether married, single, not looking for a relationship or dating. This talk will be an expansion to what we originally explored in Matthew 19 (look it up for a refresher!) about having soft hearts in regards to the relationships in our lives. How can our relationships with others flourish the way that God intended regardless of what 'relational status' we have? We'll also chat about Christ's standards in the sermon on the Mount and how that applies to purity, judgment, temptations, relationships and everything in between. Bring your Bibles.

This Sunday (4th), we'll continue our prayer initiative as a multi-generational congregation in 202. This is an intentional effort to not only commit ourselves in prayer, but build unity and relationships amongst our English congregation. Our hope is that praying with (and for) one another will help us understand one another and build unity in our prayers and actions. God shapes us through prayer, He refines us and makes us consider His will and desires for our church.

C&Y programs cancelled tonight (24th)

I don't like being the bearer of bad news but C&Y (AWANA, PE, YF) and Mandarin programs have all been cancelled tonight due to the current storm that will continue into the night. There have been a lot of concerns about the weather from volunteers and parents so everything has been called off for safety reasons. I know it's a bummer.

Remember to bring Getaway forms on Sunday (deadline on the 4th), let us know about No Other Name, I'll also be handing out 30 Hour Famine forms on Sunday too... LOTS of stuff coming up soon!

YF Basic: Prayer this Friday (24th) Getaway, NON

Thanks for another packed weekend! Even though weather didn't cooperate enough for Winterlude last Friday, we were able to enjoy fellowship at the worship training session, Bible study on Colossians, Getaway practice and Sunday school over the weekend.

This Friday (24th), we'll continue through part 6 of the Basic series that started last January with Prayer. Over the last year we've journeyed through this series which challenges us to reclaim church/fellowship to what God desires it to be according to the Bible. We've looked at Fear God, Follow Jesus, Holy Spirit, Fellowship and Teaching. Our focus this week will be on prayer... Is it possible that some of our prayers go unanswered because we are praying out of a sense of obligation or maybe for the wrong things? Are our prayers supposed to be a list of things we want, or are they really intended to be an ongoing dialogue with God about the things He wants? Bring your Bibles and Getaway forms!

This Sunday (26th), we'll continue with our devotional thought followed by wisdom in proverbs. We just focused on holding our tongues, foolish motives and maintaining healthy relationships with God and others. This week we'll focus on integrity and honesty from chapter 20.

Good Friday morning service at CCCO (before No Other Name), I'll be coordinating the Good Friday joint worship service on April 6th. If you have any creative skits (preferably silent or sparse dialogue to avoid too much translation) or something you would like to contribute to the service please let me know.

Getaway forms due March 4th, please return them as soon as possible with cheques payable to 'Ottawa Chinese Youth Ministerium' Preparations and meetings are ongoing for all the Getaway committees, hope things are going well!

No Other Name is coming up on Good Friday, April 6th. Let me know you are coming before March 15th to get the $29 earlybird, otherwise it will be $42.

Prayer: Please continue praying for the personal things you know (shared publicly at YF) or trusted to you by a brother or sister, also pray for our C&Y meeting this Wednesday night, we'll have lots to talk about regarding the mission trip, several events, rock the river, AWANA, curriculum, together program, budgets, etc. Pray for the C&Y team as it's a huge task and the core group members have all been working hard as there are more than 40 volunteers involved in these ministries!

Let us know how we can join you in prayer and help us set up a time to catch up over coffee, bbtea or whatever...
See you all on Friday!

YF/PE this Friday (17th) now at church (Worship training 5pm-7pm)

spoke to members of the core group and some PE/YF parents and we've decided it will be wise to move YF/PE to the church this Friday. The canal is closed for use today and the weather tomorrow is no better, as much as we'd like to control the weather, that's beyond us.

So if you are part of the worship training, see you at 5pm tomorrow, otherwise see you at 7:30pm in room 202 of the church for a devo/Bible study/snacks/fellowship time :)

YF/PE Winterlude this Friday 17th (Worship Training, Getaway)

Thanks for being a part of a fantastic Rock the River student launch on Friday, there were about 950 people with us on Friday! This event was designed primarily to let everyone know about Rock the River and build excitement for everything that's ahead of us! The next main parts of RTR is No Other Name on Apr 6th and then the FM 4:19 conference on May 4th-5th. Check out the Rend Collective Experiment who will be joining us then as well! Thanks for another energetic and interactive Sunday School too, it's been fun with the devotional sharings and discovering godly wisdom and character in Proverbs together!

our very own Manson has his picture of Ouje featured at Winterlude 2012This Friday (17th), we will be skating as Pure Energy and YF together on our annual Winterlude outing, we'll meet at the Yan's. The Yan family has graciously opened their home to us and we will be meeting there and being picked up there as it is conveniently close to the canal! Meet at the address in your e-mail at 7:15pm to 7:30pm, please make every effort to be on time because we would like to leave as a full group from the home to the canal. Please bring warm clothing, extra socks, skates (bag to carry those skates), money for beavertails (optional), gloves... well winter clothing, use your God-given common sense :)

This Friday (17th), prior to YF will be the final worship training session in this series 5pm - 7pm, we will have some sharing from auntie Salina regarding teaching children, Tim and Manson will be sharing on the logistics of working together as a worship team. If you signed up for this, please make every effort to make it and if you are interested you are more than welcome to join! If you need a ride from church to auntie Salina's house for Winterlude, please let us know as soon as you read this! :)

This Sunday (19th), we'll continue with a 'devotional thought' and our series through Proverbs, last week we looked at godly leadership and characteristics of God that we should pursue, this week we look at harmony in relationships.

In your e-mail is the soft copy of the Getaway form that many of you received last Friday! There is a beautiful poster prepared by our own Priscilla as well (a portion of it is on the form too). The deadline for registration is March 4th, please get your forms and cheques payable to 'Ottawa Chinese Youth Ministerium' in as soon as possible.

Preparations and meetings are ongoing for all the Getaway committees, hope things are going well!

No one has given a very definitive answer on the Ski trip at Cascades on the 25th, $15 rental, $15 lift, $11 lessons, $6 helmet and $10 bus, this is literally last call.

Prayer: Please continue praying for the personal things you know about (whether shared publicly at YF) or trusted to you by a brother or sister, also pray for our Elders/Deacons meeting this Thursday night where we lay out ministry plans and budgets, pray for unity in what is essential, liberty in things that are not and that God would give us leaders wisdom and discernment.

Let us know how we can be praying for you and when you would like to catch up!
See you all on Friday!

YF RTR Student Launch at Cedarview Alliance Church this Friday 7pm-10pm (10th)

Thanks for a real awesome weekend, it was another packed one with Pastor Cam speaking with us before YF regarding worship (funny story, as he was preparing that talk at Starbucks, a woman whipped out a urine sample at the table next to him, pretty gross actually), then at YF we had a great relationships talk from the gospels, where we examined how relationships whether single or married would be drastically different if governed by softer hearts. Getaway practice on Sat went well, I trust your committees are moving along well :) Then we had a wonderful time of small group and congregational prayer in 202 on Sunday, please continue to pray for revival in individual lives and the church!

This Friday (10th) will be the student launch of Rock the River at Cedarview Alliance Church 2784 Cedarview Road (directions), you've heard about this for months :) It's free admission and we'll have Nine O Five as the band and Mark Miller will be the speaker. Please invite everyone in your fellowship groups at school, have them tell their youth pastor and increase awareness for this eight-month ministry! I've attached the letter sent to your parents and a revised form. Please have your parents fill this form and it will count for 4 separate events!

This Sunday (12th) we'll be continuing with the devotional sharing and then our lesson in the book of Proverbs.

Upcoming:
The 3rd and final worship training session in this series will be held on Feb 17th 5-7pm again at the church.
There is a ski trip on February 25th if you are interested, let me know NOW... $15 rental, $15 lift, $11 lessons, $6 helmet and $10.

Suggest a time that we can catch up and let us know how we can be praying for you!

See you all on Friday at Cedarview!
