YF Bowling at the RA Centre this Friday

(from the Tuesday e-mail)
It was great to continue our study of Nehemiah last week, it was a firm reminder for our need to turn from the sin in our lives and also a reminder that fitting 26 people into the youth room gets kinda warm and feet-smelly. It's definitely cozy y'know? :) Thanks for submitting so many Ouje forms this year, it's definitely a sign that God's been working in your lives and to see such a willingness to serve is awesome! Regardless of whether you are on the team or not, please pray for the team that will be ministering in Ouje this summer!

This Friday (May 1st), we've rented the whole R.A. Center on Friday for our church to bowl. This is a joint family/church event, it's important for families to have events together. AWANA and Pure Energy will be joining us for bowling. Please meet at the RA Center (2451 Riverside Drive - directions) at 7:15pm. If you are not going with your family, please do your best to arrange car pools - Brad and Rae-Anne are available for rides from the church, if you are interested please give them a message asap (their emails are in the address field). As it is meant to be a family event, your parents are strongly encouraged to attend (and your little brothers and sisters). It costs $7 for 3 games and shoe rental is included as well.

YF Coffeehouse (May 22) is ridiculously close! There are only a couple of weekends left to plan/practice for the coffeehouse, keep in mind that may 9th is CCCO's 20th anniversary outdoor bloc party, so the whole church is encouraged to be a part of that. That doesn't leave much time if your teams plan to meet on a non-school night! The groups should know what they are planning for and practicing/working towards that goal at this point. Keep in mind to pray for your friends who you are inviting and to invite them :)

A few of you have already shared that you will be helping with this year's VBS (August 10-14), if you are able please set aside time to help this summer. Also clear your calendar for YF Discipleship Week which is the following week (August 17-21).

Youth Opportunities: Areas of the city are initiating a peer-led youth program that aims to raise awareness of prejudicial and racists thinking amongst high school students. It's a one year project to gather a group of youth ages 14-18 to meet about once a week from May to the end of July to put together a peer-led presentation (be it a dialogue, comedy, skit, etc.) that aims to open dialogue around discrimination and hate crimes. This presentation will then be presented to different community groups and in high school classrooms. If you are interested let me know (the hours can count towards your community service hours)

The National House of Prayer is looking for students to take part in CampFire It is an opportunity to live at the NHOP with 29 other youth who want to make a difference in their high schools and universities. If you are not going to Ouje this summer, consider this opportunity from june 28 - july 4. They will be doing street outreach, outdoor events... more details on the campfire website.

There has been a lot of trust in this group and shared struggles so keep praying for each other!

YF Bible study this Friday (Ouje Applications Due!)

B-rad, Rae-Anne, Shelly and I are back from our week vacation! It was awesome, some of us got a little burned, while some of us just got golden :) I'm sure you'll hear about our trip (it was lots of relaxing by the ocean, we even built a sand castle - it dwarfed the efforts of other little kids!)... don't laugh, we were pretty proud of ourselves =). Lots coming up in YF (as usual!)! Friday is your last day to get the Ouje application in! (unless you are in Japan with limited internet access ie. Jen - and the unlikely event that others fit that description) I've got about a gazillion e-mails to catch up on, so please just get your applications in first... then we can work out individual details. The planning has to start ASAP.

This Friday (April 24th), we'll be continuing our Bible study in Nehemiah, you may want to refresh yourself a bit and read the 4 chapters we have covered so far. We've been taking a look into Godly leadership (which has been a focus, through leadership retreats, discipleship week, retreats, missions trips, the coffeehouse committee etc.), our prayer for you is that you all will find out how you can serve! We will be studying Nehemiah chapter 5 this week in the youth room, so bring your Bibles! I was thinking it may be cool, if you guys wanted to bring concentrated drinks or snacks on Bible study nights and we could store drinks in the fridge, just an idea for the fellowship/prayer time after the study. :)

It's been an amazing year, it's been so cool to see how everyone trusts each other enough to share our life stories/struggles with each other and even more amazing to see you guys pray for each other. This kind of atmosphere is very special and can take years for people to develop... so keep praying for each other!

Coffeehouse (May 22) is coming up! the student committee has been working really hard in getting people organzied, I've seen Neva send out lots of great e-mails and know that teams are set up! Hopefully things are falling into place :) Keep in mind to pray for your friends who you are inviting and to invite them :) Don't try things/programs/music that are too grand if time doesn't permit.

Those who are planning to go to Ouje, start praying and brainstorming on possible Bible studies that highlight God's indescribable love for us, also for games and crafts and worship songs that you feel could contribute to that theme. Get your applications in this Friday!

Also, it's been great seeing friends come and stay and others who have come a few times, if you feel like you want to forward this e-mail to anyone I don't have on the list yet, follow that 'gut' (or what I prefer to call Spirit-led) feeling.

if you want to get together for a coffee/talk - YOU know what to do.
see you on Friday!

Hey everyone!
(read it all, VERY important: ouje form needs to be filled)

It was great having guys/girls night this week, I overheard lots of people saying that we should try and do that more often (I wholeheartedly concur)! I think the summer might open up more occasions like that, maybe with different hosts houses too! us guys had an incredible time of sharing and gulfing down 5 large pizzas and 3 medium pizzas. it was a really awesome time of sharing and now that we all know each other on a deeper level, to keep praying for each other and asking for updates ;)

NO OTHER NAME is this Friday! I think the vast majority of you have registered already. We will be meeting at the Met (2176 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, ON) googled it, click the link for the map. Bring your registration fee ($25 if you registered before April 1st, $30 if you registered after Apr 1). Please arrange car pools / your rides to arrive there at 12:15pm and to be picked up at 10:30pm. Good Friday is still the only calendar holiday that has not been commercialized and is not celebrated in any other way but to recognize Christ and His sacrifice for us. This event is orchestrated by our Ottawa youth pastors network Exousia, which is headed up by Paul Racine. It's going to be an awesome event, if you still haven't registered - it takes seconds and you don't even need to put in credit card info, payment is at the door http://noothername.net/registration.html

CCCO Coffeehouse is coming up extremely soon !May 22! To reduce panicing, please get a head start on the aspects which your team is covering! The student council portion of the Leadership Retreat was set up for this very event. Some Saturdays might have to be set apart for planning (maybe different groups can meet up on the Saturdays). Please also keep in mind friends that you want to invite!

Ouje-Bougoumou is also coming up quick! This trip requires a lot of planning and logistics (rental vehicles, adults ratio, crafts, games, messages, devotions, missions committee, worship, booklets, equipment to bring, lots of explaining the purpose and getting people on board). It was really tough to plan last year and we do require dedication from those who are thinking of going (it's not meant to be a 'retreat', vacation or a resume experience. I've sent the Ouje Form in the last few weeks and have not received any responses yet, the form consists of three questions to answer and NEEDS to be submitted by April 24th (the sooner by-email, the better), the core group and I will have a final list of names by beginning of May. We will be focusing on God's incredible love for us for that whole week, amazingly - it's not a message thats said enough to these youth, so please brainstorm as you prepare devotionals for the trip.

We've loved the chats and getting together with some of you during the week too, if you're up for it, let us know!
See you at No Other Name all day Friday!
